Current Pipe Materials That Need to be Up-graded
in Proposed Water Projects
- Cement – not made for pressurized systems resulting in leaking joints; over 40 years old
- Cast Iron – pipe with seams that split & crack; over 40 years old
- Transite – made of cement and asbestos, standard changed in 1970
- Galvanized – thin walled tubing that chemically erodes then splits, cracks, or dissolves; over 60 years old
- Some laterals and joint repairs contain lead joints which are now illegal
